Newsletter end of October 2025
Happy half term to those of you in the throws of school life!
We have a full week ahead planned with bike rides, castle visits, pumpkin carving and baking on the agenda. I’ll definitely be ready to retreat to my Yoga mat for a while with you all at class, which are all running as usual over the school break.
Today sees the start of our next 6 week evening Yoga theme which is inspired by the Moon! One of my all time favourite Yoga practices that I love to do at this time of the year now the Moon is our main source of light as it leads us further and further into those darker days. I know this can be a dread and feel like a difficult time for a lot of us, but the dark can be a wonderful, nurturing place if we can just embrace it.
Samhain is just around the corner and our ancestors of this land saw this time of the year as the ‘New Year.’ Recognising that all of life begins in the dark they found this point more aligned with Nature rather than placing the year to begin in January when the light begins to return after Winter Solstice. We have our Following the Flow class this Friday 31st October where we will be exploring this more and also discovering some of the stories and rituals behind this festival such as, why we dress children up as ghouls and ghosts, why apple bobbing is a thing at this time of the year and what the reason is behind the popularity of carving pumpkins! If you love myth and story connected to our land, you love Nature and you love Yoga, come along and join us. We only have 2 classes left in this year long journey and I don’t plan to offer this again next year, so now is the time to join us for Following the Flow if you feel the call! All the details can be seen below.
At the end of November I need to make a decision with the hall as to whether to continue with the day time Yoga classes at Dilhorne or not. If you would like me to continue to offer these classes for our community then please do come along and support. At the moment we are exploring Somatics, something I learnt more about with Simon Low on a weekend Yoga retreat at the start of September. Somatics works on the idea of releasing deep set tension held within the body through retraining the brain and muscle memory by repetitive tense and release movements. It’s a fairly new concept to the Western world, only coming into the light in the 1970’s and now growing in popularity in the Yoga world. There are no asanas as such, just movements but it is very much a mindful practice encouraging us to pay attention to sensation and feelings within.
I personally love offering our Thursday daytime slow and steady Yoga class, I think it compliments our evening Yoga classes lovely and provides a beautiful, softer alternative, helping to make Yoga more accessible to all.
We will be at Dilhorne this Thursday morning at 11.30am if you would like to come and join us.
If you are struggling with the darker days you may be happy to know I have been busy planning our Summer 2026 Yoga retreat… maybe something for you to look forward to if you decide to come along with us…!
